Shellac is a secretion of the female lac bug, found in South East Asia.

Surfaces treated with shellac can be refreshed without a problem at a later time. This is especially important for repairs.

In former times shellac was used to manufacture records. Shellac can also be found as a release and glazing agent (E904) in certain foods and pills.
